what inspired you today?

oh today. it's days like today... the alarm clock starts ringing 2 hours too early, you decide you don't really need to take a shower in order to get 15 more minutes of sleep, you have to stop for that cup of coffee that you know you are paying too much for, you try to find some ounce of optimism to jumpstart your morning... and then you realize it's only tuesday and then it's back to negative-town you go, you catch a glance of yourself in the mirror and realize you probably should've taken that shower, and just when you start to think that today is just like any other... you become inspired.

that's the greatest thing about my job... about working with kids. you can't help but be inspired.

i walked into the room of a young girl who had visited her physician last week with the chief complaint of unrelenting leg pain. one day later, a bone marrow test reveal the diagnosis of leukemia. in the past five days, her life had been flipped upside down.

she was excited about her best friend coming to visit tonight, she talked about how she used to like skiing until she fell one time while getting off of the chair lift. she informed me of the exact date and time of her birth. she smiled, we laughed. i told her i loved the big pink bow in her hair, she told me she could kick my booty in 'go fish.' not once did she say the word 'can't.' she was full of a whole bunch of 'can.' she walked around her bed for the first time in 2 days and then she challenged me to a game of yahtzee for tomorrow's session. i accepted. suddenly my outlook on the day had changed. she had inspired me.

what inspired you today?
