day 14: welcome to milwaukee... paul's beer mecca!

i deeply apologize for the delayed post from yesterday,
but we were out until 3am raging at a local hot spot,
so it was too late to post when we returned.

you don't believe me?

good, you shouldn't.
you know me too well.

real story: we fell asleep listening to the 3rd hunger games book.
we are cool people.

day 14 included a fabulous trip to milwaukee, wi!
just like with madison, we had some great friends sending us great suggestions for what to do...

we started the morning with a bike ride by the art museum and shore!
(next time, we'll have to stop in the art museum... it looked to be quite wonderful.)

a view of the city skyline from the lake...

between the rockin' bike ride and the heat... livi was easily pooped-out!

us with milwaukee!

our friend steve recommended that we eat at solly's... it was a landmark of a restaurant!!
a 'counter-style' place, they specialize in their burgers (specifically, butter burgers... let the artery-blocking begin!) and shakes... needless to say, we got both.
we split the blue burger and 'the original cheesehead'!

typical for me, i had already dug in to my meal before paul was able to take a photo...

the blue burger was 2 patties and smothered in blue cheese... delish.
and 'the original cheesehead' (with that name, we HAD to get it!) was a whopping 4 patties with stewed AND raw onions, as well as 4 types of cheese (we asked that the mushrooms be left off, but i'm sure they are great, for those who enjoy mushrooms).

they were both a-mazing.

sneaky paul snuck a photo of me waiting for his chocolate shake.
what a cute place, huh?

and here is the outside of solly's... seriously, go there now.

upon julie's recommendation (confirmed by many others), we traveled to lakefront brewery for a tour and many tastings. i love touring breweries, even though i typically am not able to taste the beers (no gluten, please!)... HOWEVER, this brewery is the maker of one of my favie gf beers! what a wonderful surprise!

i think we enjoyed the trip/tour even more because of that!

aside from pint glasses and tastings, the lakefront brewery gave us vouchers to receive free pints of their beer at a local cheese bar. cheese bar? yes, please!

we scampered over to the cheese bar after the tour and after a walk through the bastille day festival (a cute arts festival... had my name written all over it!).

with all the beer and cheese in our bellies, we needed a cat nap.

after a rest (and watching a dateline episode... yay, dateline on TLC!), we took the liv-meister (who had been waiting for us so patiently in the cooled hotel room) on the milwaukee river walk. there were fun bronzed statues and other fun sites to see along the walk!

livi dog photo(s) of the day:

livi wasn't so sure about the 'bronzed fonz' at first... but she warmed-up quickly.

'but mom! i really want to get in that river! did you not see the ducks?!'

'i suppose i'll settle for 'millie'... the bronzed milwaukee duck.'

on our way back, i got to talk to one of my bff's from forever (elizabeth cooper ramsey, duh!)!
we found a shady spot, and livi joined in on the conversation once in a while...
can't wait to see you in raleigh, lizzy!

as previously-stated, we then began listening to the last 2 chapters of the 3rd hunger games book...
we had high hopes to finish it last night... because we are addicted!!...
but in true megan-fashion... we fell asleep.

we are now up relatively early and about to head to chicago for 2 nights!
can't wait to see what chi-town has in store for us...

safe traveling and much love!
